Boyd agrees with Rangers transfer assessment after Martin and Thelwell footage
Russell Martin wasn’t a happy man as Rangers drew 1-1 against Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.
Jens Berthel Askou’s team rescued a point at Fir Park on 2 August after a late goal from Emmanuel Longelo in the 87th minute.
The Gers fans can’t complain about the result as the Steelmen dominated the second half after James Tavernier’s opener in the 14th minute.
Martin didn’t hold back after the result against Motherwell, and the Light Blues may have already discussed drastic plans for the coming weeks.

Martin makes plans for Rangers player exit
Kris Boyd feels the Gers have a bloated squad, with several exits on the cards.
The ex-Gers forward agreed when James McFadden suggested that Martin may be speaking with Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart about potential sales, as the trio were filmed having a conversation at Fir Park after full time.
With the Scottish manager fuming with the Glaswegian outfit’s players, he was filmed in deep conversation with the sporting director and CEO.
- Motherwell had an xG of 2.21 compared to the Gers’ 0.7, as per FotMob.
- The hosts created five big chances at Fir Park.
- Jack Butland made five saves against the Steelmen.
Speaking on Sky Sports (2 August), McFadden said: “Do you think, the question is always asked, will you get more players in? Do you think he’s actually maybe saying ‘we need to get a lot of these out’.
Boyd responded: “One-hundred per cent. Rangers’ problem now is the squad is bloated – there are far, far too many players there.”

Ibrox transfer exodus on cards after Motherwell draw
Oliver Antman could be the ninth signing at Ibrox this summer, but the Gers will certainly focus more on departures in the coming weeks.
Several players may be surplus to requirements at the Light Blues after being left out of Martin’s plans at the start of the season, and the Go Ahead Eagles forward could potentially replace Kieran Dowell.
Besiktas are interested in Ridvan Yilmaz, with the Turkish national’s squad number being given to Max Aarons, and Ben Davies is the other defender who doesn’t seem to have a future in G51.
Player | Age |
Max Aarons | 25 |
Emmanuel Fernandez | 23 |
Nasser Djiga | 22 |
Joe Rothwell | 30 |
Lyall Cameron | 22 |
Thelo Aasgaard | 23 |
Djeidi Gassama | 21 |
Mikey Moore | 17 |
Rangers also need to make a decision on the likes of Jose Cifuentes, Oscar Cortes and Rabbi Matondo, who represent failures of the previous regime at Ibrox.
Youngsters like Leon King, Clinton Nsiala, Robbie Fraser and Bailey Rice should look for opportunities elsewhere for regular game time.
Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers are attracting interest from elsewhere, but only time will tell how many are sold or loaned out by the Glaswegian outfit before the end of August.
