Rangers finally confirmed the loan signing of Mikey Moore on Friday (1 August).

The confirmation of the agreement with the Tottenham youngster caps off a good week for the Gers, as they also ensured their progression to the next round of Champions League qualifying.

Rangers saw off Panathinaikos on Wednesday (30 July), with a 1-1 draw in Athens, and it now feels as though they are firmly up and running under Russell Martin.

Defoe reacts as Moore arrival confirmed by Rangers

Moore’s arrival promises to be a hugely exciting deal for Rangers, as the winger is one of the most prestigious talents to have come through Tottenham’s academy in recent years.

He became a first-team regular in North London at the age of just 17 last season, and he could be ready to immediately become a major influence within this Gers side.

Martin and Co. have had to beat off competition from several other sides, with the starlet having been heavily linked with a spell in the English Championship in the past few weeks.

However, Rangers have instead delivered a masterclass on how to get a deal done quickly, as they have been rewarded by securing Moore’s signature.

They confirmed the wideman’s arrival via Instagram on Friday (1 August), and Jermain Defoe immediately shared his take on the deal.

The former Rangers hero hit 25 goals across his three-year stint at Ibrox, and he replied to the club’s post by writing: “Emotional seeing this, so happy for you, bro.

“WATP.”

Moore deal shows Rangers still have transfer pull

Rangers’ ability to secure Moore for the 2025/26 season showcases the esteem that the Govan outfit are still held in within the game.

They are a famous old club, with an unparalleled fanbase, and that will surely have been a key factor in Spurs’ decision to send the youngster north of the border.

The Gers may not be the force they once were in their pomp, but it is hugely promising to see that their reputation still carries plenty of weight within the footballing world.

Martin now has the crucial task of ensuring that he can restore them to their former glory and enhance that reputation even further.
