Conor Coady medical scheduled amid Rangers transfer development

Leicester City defender Conor Coady has been linked with a permanent move to Rangers this summer.

Despite signing two centre-backs in Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez this summer, the Ibrox outfit remain keen on adding another to their ranks.

Leon Balogun and Robin Propper have both left, leaving them with a big void of experience to fill.

Coady set for Wrexham move

According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph (1 August), Wrexham have reached a £2million agreement with Leicester for Coady.

He is expected in Wales on Friday for his medical ahead of finalising the transfer.

The 10-cap England international is understood to be impressed by Wrexham’s project as their monumental rise up the pyramid continues.

Rangers were keen on Coady, but he liked the pitch from the Welsh side and will be continuing his future there.

Rangers could have benefited from signing Coady

Losing Coady to Wrexham is a significant blow for Rangers, as the experienced centre-back could have been a regular starter and a cornerstone of their defensive strategy under Martin.

The 32-year-old with nearly 200 Premier League appearances brings leadership, composure and versatility, having excelled as a centre-back.

His ability to play in a back three, combined with his ball-playing skills, would have perfectly suited Martin’s system, addressing Gers’ need for a commanding presence following recent defensive reinforcements like Fernandez and Djiga.

Coady’s proven track record, including captaining Wolves to two seventh-place Premier League finishes and a Europa League quarter-final, would have added stability and experience to a squad aiming to compete in the Scottish Premiership and Champions League qualifiers.

With Wrexham swaying him, Martin must now target a defender of equal or greater calibre to anchor the backline, ensuring Rangers remain competitive domestically and in Europe.
