Rangers to resume Yilmaz negotiations in hours as transfer talks on hold

Rangers could potentially come to an agreement soon to sell Ridvan Yilmaz this transfer window.

The Turkey international has struggled to make a mark at the Gers since leaving Besiktas in 2022, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave in the coming weeks.

Yilmaz isn’t happy at Ibrox, with Russell Martin excluding him from the Light Blues’ Champions League squad and Max Aarons being given the 24-year-old’s jersey number.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the defender at Besiktas, and negotiations are set to resume within hours.

Besiktas to push for Yilmaz transfer from Rangers after Shakhtar Donetsk game

Besiktas will return to the negotiating table for Yilmaz after facing Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League, according to Efecan Oztas.

The KRT TV journalist revealed on X (29 July) that the Gers and the Super Lig outfit will sit down once again to discuss the 24-year-old’s exit from Ibrox.

It’s been claimed that the process to sign the left-back had been put on hold, but will begin again after the Istanbul club’s second leg in the qualifying round of the European competition on 31 July.

The full-back department seems a bit weak at the Glaswegian outfit, but the Turkish defender is clearly out of their project.

Martin will need new full-back at Rangers after Yilmaz exit

Max Aarons played as a left-back at Ibrox against Panathinaikos in the Champions League, but he left a lot to be desired.

The Bournemouth loanee looked uncomfortable playing in an unnatural position, and Martin clearly instructed him to drop into the midfield with the ball.

James Tavernier looks set to keep his place in the starting lineup under the Scottish manager, but initially, many felt Aarons would be his replacement.

Martin’s full-back options at the Gers.

If Rangers do sell Yilmaz to Besiktas this summer, they may be left short on quality options in defence.

Dujon Sterling has consistently struggled with fitness issues in G51, while Jefte faced a lot of criticism for his defensive failings in the previous campaign.

Robbie Fraser and Zander Hutton haven’t shown much to make a case for themselves in the first team, and Martin should undoubtedly ask for a new full-back if the Turkey international departs.
