Mikey Moore contract twist emerges at Tottenham ahead of loan move to Rangers

Rangers have recently emerged as the frontrunners in the race to sign Tottenham starlet Mikey Moore on loan.

The 17-year-old burst onto the scene in the Premier League last time out, as he was one of the great beneficiaries of Spurs’ woeful injury record.

Rangers have forced their way to the front of the queue to sign Moore, amid interest in the youngster from several sides in the EFL Championship.

The Gers have been edging ever closer to completing the deal, but there now be an added twist as an agreement nears on the horizon.

Moore to sign new Spurs contract before joining Rangers ‘within 24 hours’

Russell Martin will already be assessing how he will use Moore at Ibrox, as it now seems to be something of a formality that the deal will go through.

The new boss has been pushing for fresh additions in Govan all summer, and the young winger could be about to become their eighth new signing of the window so far.

Rangers have moved quickly to get themselves in a commanding position to secure Moore’s signature, and it is now understood that the deal could be concluded within the next 24 hours, according to BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella via X (30 July).

However, the agreement may now incorporate an additional element, in that he is expected to pen a new deal in North London, before the loan move officially goes through.

Rangers need to ease Moore into action

Moore is certainly an exciting acquisition for Rangers, but they must be careful not to hold expectations unnecessarily high for the youngster.

He is undoubtedly one of the brightest jewels from Tottenham’s current crop of academy stars, but his rapid rise into the first team last season has shrouded his inexperience somewhat.

It is easy to forget that, were it not for Spurs’ awful luck with injuries, Moore could still be playing age-group football at this moment in time.

With that in mind, it will be important that Martin manages the wideman carefully and doesn’t throw him in at the deep end straight away.

The former Southampton boss has plenty of interesting talent in the wide areas, with Djeidi Gassama’s arrival coinciding with the continued emergence of Findlay Curtis.

The 39-year-old needs to share the workload across the three of them as best he can, to ensure that they all get a regular chance to impress, but also do not become burned out or overburdened by the responsibility of wearing the shirt.
