49ers play risky Rangers game after latest Dowell and Davies transfer update

The 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh have made a lot of good decisions since taking the reins at Rangers.

The new majority owners have hired Russell Martin as manager and backed the ex-Southampton man with six signings so far.

However, there has been little progress in terms out of outgoings, with the likes of Jose Cifuentes and Rabbi Matondo deemed surplus to requirements still at the club.

Ben Davies is another who is not expected to feature this season, while Kieran Dowell has been utilised by Martin in pre-season, but still has interest from the market after previously being frozen out.

Birmingham wait for Rangers response amid Dowell and Davies interest

Birmingham remain interested in securing the Ibrox duo, who would both be familiar with their surroundings in the Midlands after spending last season on loan with the Blues.

A report from Give Me Sport (30 July) claims that the Championship outfit are still waiting for a response from the Gers amid their interest in the duo.

It states that the Light Blues are holding out for fees for the pair who are in the last 12 months of their contracts.

49ers need to maximise Rangers profit

The 49ers and Co. need to ensure that they make as much as possible from sales this summer, so it can be reinvested into Martin’s team.

The likes of Davies and Dowell, if they are not in Martin’s plans, need to be moved on as soon as possible.

They need to quicken up their response to the former League One outfit, regardless of whether they are willing to sell the duo or not.

The likes of Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez have been brought in Davies’ position, so it is unlikely that he will feature again for the Gers.

Meanwhile, Dowell has earned a place in Martin’s pre-season plans and even featured against Panathinaikos in the 2-0 win in the first leg of the Champions League qualifier.

Whether he is safe from a sale though, remains to be seen.
