Rangers block Cifuentes loan exit as approaches made to cash in at Ibrox
Rangers are set to sanction more exits this summer, but have now set a firm stance over Jose Cifuentes.
Cifuentes spent last season on loan at Greek side Aris Thessaloniki, but while he impressed, he did not do enough to earn himself a future in Glasgow.
Rangers are looking to part ways with the midfielder, who made just 20 appearances for the Gers in what will go down as another transfer failure.
However, the Ibrox outfit are no longer interested in loaning the Ecuadorian out, and their transfer stance has now become clear.

Rangers only want permanent sale for Cifuentes
Cifuentes is set to leave Ibrox with several clubs interested in him, but Rangers have set a strict stance over his exit.
Chris Jack has now reported (29 July) that Rangers will not consider sending Cifuentes on another loan deal, and will only look for a permanent exit.
Clubs in both the USA and Europe are reportedly interested in the 26-year-old, who previously shone in MLS with LAFC.

The Ecuador international arrived with a lot of hype in 2023, but has since failed to deliver before heading out on two loan spells, and his time with the Gers is now coming to an end.

Cifuentes was one of several players Rangers recruited from left field in recent years who failed to make an impact. Oscar Cortes could face the same fate this summer, and Rangers cannot afford to keep making these recruitment mistakes.
The arrivals of Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell have seemingly sparked a shift in recruitment policy, with more players from the English and Scottish leagues targeted, in the hope that they would need less time to adapt.
Even if talented players arrive from the South American leagues, the culture shock of a move to Glasgow could make adaptation difficult, and there has seldom been success with these signings since Alfredo Morelos.
The Colombian became Rangers’ highest scorer in European competition before eventually leaving for free, but more domestically based talents are now being signed, with Mikey Moore set to join from Tottenham.
