Rangers set to appoint Crichton as compensation deal worked on

Rangers are set to finally sort out their vacant Women’s manager position.

Jo Potter left in June to join Crystal Palace after two years and four trophies in her first role in senior management.

The Women’s team narrowly missed out on the title on the final day of the season twice in her reign in the Ibrox dugout, and they will be hoping that they can go one better with her successor.

Step forward, Leanne Crichton.

Rangers set to appoint Crichton as Women’s manager

The Women’s team have had a difficult few months, losing Potter and homegrown star Kirsty Maclean, who left for Liverpool.

However, there has finally been progress on a replacement for the former England ace in the dugout.

Sky Sports (28 July) has reported that the Gers are set to appoint Glasgow City assistant manager Crichton as their new head coach.

It states that they are working on finalising a compensation deal with their city rivals to hire the ex-Scotland international.

Crichton faces tough task at Rangers

The Light Blues will be Crichton’s first foray into management after spells as a coach at Motherwell and assistant at Glasgow City.

However, she will not be phased by the challenge and can lean on Potter’s time in the dugout, as she also had no managerial experience when she took the role on.

Crichton is experienced within the Scottish game, having played for the likes of Celtic, Hibernian, Notts County and Motherwell.

The new majority owners, the 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh, need to ensure that the new boss is backed in the transfer market to improve the squad.

At the very least, they need to replace Maclean’s influence in the squad, as she was regarded as one of Scottish football’s best players and had made over 100 appearances for the Govan club.

If they don’t, there will be little chance that the Gers can finally get their hands on the league title after years of final-day heartbreak.

Her first test will be a trip to Montrose when the season begins on 17 August, and if she passes that with flying colours, it will be time to get excited.
