Rangers dealt ‘major blow’ as Newcastle confirm double-signing after Ibrox exits

Rangers are in the midst of a busy transfer window, with activity expected until Deadline Day.

Russell Martin has been given the job of rebuilding and is tasked with reclaiming the Scottish Premiership title from rivals Celtic.

Last season, the Hoops finished 17 points clear of the Ibrox outfit and are favourites for the championship in the upcoming campaign as well.

Oliver Goodbrand and Alfie Hutchison join Newcastle

Newcastle, via their official website on 28 July, announced that Oliver Goodbrand and Alfie Hutchison have joined the club.

Goodbrand and Hutchison sealed their Rangers exits to continue their career at St James’ Park.

The Scottish Sun has labelled this as a “major blow” for Gers as the duo were important members of the youth setup.

Goodbrand, a defender, captained Scotland at youth level, while Hutchison, a winger, made his B Team debut last season and scored twice against Queen’s Park in a 3-1 win in the Glasgow Cup.

Rangers must continue to bring talented youngsters to the club

Despite losing promising talents Goodbrand and Hutchison to Newcastle, Rangers must persist in recruiting and developing young players to ensure long-term success and sustainability.

Their departures highlight the competitive nature of youth recruitment, with Premier League clubs targeting Scottish talent.

However, Gers’ academy remains a vital pipeline for producing first-team players and generating revenue through future transfers.

By continuing to scout and nurture youngsters, the Ibrox outfit can build a robust squad capable of competing in the Scottish Premiership and European competitions while maintaining financial stability through potential transfer profits.

A strong academy also attracts top prospects, offering a clear pathway to first-team football.

This approach ensures the Gers remain competitive and financially viable in the long term.

Hopefully, the new owners also share the same approach and continue investing money into the youth sides for future development.
