Jack Butland reacts as Rangers goalkeeper delighted over new transfer

Jack Butland endured a tough season last time out for Rangers.

Butland, 32, moved to Ibrox on a free transfer from Crystal Palace in 2023 and has provided a stable presence in the Gers goal for the most part.

The ex-Stoke City man made 44 appearances for the Ibrox outfit last season, as Rangers ended trophyless, finishing 17 points behind Champions Celtic.

The Gers will be looking to improve significantly next season under new boss Russell Martin, but Butland will have one less goalkeeper to keep his place over in 2025/26.

Butland likes post as Mason Munn departs on loan

Mason Munn has departed on loan to Dunfermline Athletic.

Munn, 19, is an emerging young talent in the Gers academy, having been around the first team as an unused substitute during the winter months of last season, as well as making his debut in a 5-0 win over Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup.

The Northern Irishman rose to prominence during Rangers‘ B side’s run to the Scottish Challenge Cup quarter-finals, before losing 3-1 to eventual finalists Queen’s Park.

In an Instagram post confirming the move, which Butland has liked, Munn said he was delighted to move to Dunfermline and can’t wait to meet the fans at East End Park.

Butland has an important season ahead

Although the Englishman has a tight grip on the number one shirt at the moment, he will need to perform well under Martin to keep hold of that position.

The former Southampton manager’s style of play requires his goalkeeper to be able to play the ball out from the back, and he did that with some superb saves against Panathinaikos.

Should Munn impress during his loan spell and develop the characteristics needed for Martin’s system, then Butland’s number one shirt could be under threat shortly.
