Rangers raise funds to seal their most expensive signing since Tore Andre Flo

Rangers are prepared to break the bank this summer.

It’s no secret that Russell Martin wants to continue bolstering his options ahead of his first Scottish Premiership campaign in charge of Gers.

After previously being linked to David Brooks, those rumours have seemingly begun to fade as other options now look more likely.

With Rangers’ opening fixture in the Scottish Premiership against Motherwell (2 August) rapidly approaching, ensuring a new wide player comes through the door as soon as possible is crucial for Martin.

Rak-Sakyi keen on Gers move according to Alan Nixon

The allure of potential Champions League football is an incredible tool that Rangers have at their disposal when it comes to attracting new players.

Martin’s side got off to a positive start in their first leg against Panathinaikos, recording a 2-0 win in their Champions League qualifying fixture on Tuesday (22 July).

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi could be set to move north of the border on loan from Crystal Palace, with the 22-year-old impressing at Sheffield United during his temporary stint there last season.

Rak-Sakyi would be a welcome boost for Martin’s side, with the English manager having to rely on teenager Findlay Curtis against the Greek giants.

Although the teenager scored a wonderful goal, having multiple options in the wide areas is crucial for Rangers if they want to hunt down Celtic next season.

According to reports from Alan Nixon (ReluctantNicko) on his Patreon (27 July), Rak-Sakyi is keen on a move to the Light Blues.

With Rak-Sakyi being valued at £10million, it would rival the £12million Rangers paid for Tore Andre Flo back in 2000 if the Light Blues made the Englishman’s stay in Glasgow permanent, making Rak-Sakyi potentially their most expensive signing in over two decades.

Rangers must get Rak-Sakyi deal over the line

With the player reportedly now welcoming the move, Gers must do everything within their power to bring the winger to Ibrox.

The 49ers have already had a busy window so far, with the likes of Max Aarons and Joe Rothwell amongst others arriving in G51.

Securing Rak-Sakyi even on loan, however, would arguably be their most impressive piece of business so far and would represent a quality addition in an area that Martin’s squad is currently lacking in.

If they could even secure a permanent deal for the winger eventually for a sum of £10million, it would put the rest of Scotland on notice that Rangers and the 49ers are not messing around when it comes to their recruitment.
