Ridvan Yilmaz bargain transfer ready at Rangers as Ibrox exit needed

Ridvan Yilmaz could finally end his stint with Rangers this transfer window after being left out of Russell Martin’s plans at Ibrox.

Bournemouth loanee Max Aarons has taken the Turkey international’s shirt number at the Gers, seemingly indicating his career is over in G51.

The 24-year-old left-back was also left out of the Light Blues’ Champions League squad to face Panathinaikos in the second qualifying round.

It looks like a bargain transfer is now ready for the defender, with an exit from the Glaswegian outfit arguably needed.

Rangers exit on cards as Yilmaz to cost Besiktas less than David Jurasek

Yilmaz is open to a return to Besiktas from the Gers this summer, Gokmen Ozcan says.

The Fanatik journalist believes the Turkish full-back and the Super Lig outfit both need each other, with the defender wanting to move away from Ibrox.

Yilmaz’s record at the Gers last season.

Ozacan revealed that the 24-year-old would cost the Istanbul club less than David Jurasek, whom they recently signed on loan from Benfica.

Speaking on Tivibu Spor (25 July), the journalist said: “Yilmaz needs Besiktas, and Besiktas needs Yilmaz. He’s open to returning. I’ve learned that his cost is also lower than Jurasek’s.”

Martin should pursue new left-back transfer after Yilmaz exit

Aarons clearly struggled against Panathinaikos in the first leg on 22 July at home as the Gers won 2-0.

The English defender looked uncomfortable playing in an unnatural position and often gave the ball away, which led to some dangerous counters from the Greek outfit.

Martin arguably needs to rethink his strategy before going to Athens and for the upcoming campaign, and if he doesn’t trust Jefte or Yilmaz to be starters, then a new left-back is undoubtedly needed.

It isn’t surprising to see Yilmaz wanting to leave Rangers after being left out of the Scottish manager’s plans, and a return to Besiktas seems like the right move for him.

The 24-year-old’s versatility proved invaluable to the Gers last season, but they will certainly hope to have a much more balanced squad by the end of August.

Once the Turkish full-back eventually leaves, the Light Blues should look for a capable defender for the left side and switch Aarons to right-back, where he can challenge James Tavernier for a place in the starting lineup.
