Rangers scouts wowed by Rak-Sakyi as transfer update drops before Champions League

Rangers are attempting to complete a move for Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

The Gers failed with an initial approach on Thursday (24 July), thought to be a loan bid with an obligation to buy worth around £10million.

But the Glasgow club are determined to complete a deal for the young star, who could become Russell Martin’s seventh signing of the summer.

Rangers have brought in Thelo Aasgaard and Djeidi Gassama, among others, and are also interested in a move for Leicester City defender Conor Coady.

Rak-Sakyi ruled out for Champions League clash

Rak-Sakyi enjoyed a superb first season of first-team football on loan at Charlton for the 2022/23 season, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists for the Addicks.

The winger looked to be in line for action in Palace’s first team in the following season, but was ruled out through injury for the majority.

Upon his return, he was loaned out to Sheffield United for the 2024/5 season, making 34 Championship appearances for the Blades as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

But now Rak-Sakyi could be set for a more permanent solution, with Rangers keen to give the 22-year-old a prominent role within Martin’s team.

According to Mail Online (24 July), the winger caught the eye of the Ibrox scouts during his spell in the Championship.

But, should a deal be completed for Rak-Sakyi in the next week, he would not be eligible to play in Rangers’ Champions League qualifying second-leg clash against Panathinaikos – Martin’s side are 2-0 up on aggregate.

Ibrox News understands that Palace want a permanent sale and are seeking around £15million to part ways with the young winger.

Rak-Sakyi would be an exciting signing

Gassama’s instant impact on his Rangers debut gave fans a taste of what a young winger can do for Martin’s team.

In many ways, Rak-Sakyi is a similar player from the right, quick and skilful, with the ability to fire off a powerful strike.

The prospect of having the two young talents on either side will be a hugely exciting one for Rangers fans, for now and the future.
