Rangers in fresh transfer blow as Hardy to Bristol City details emerge

Rangers’ men’s and women’s teams are facing a squad overhaul this summer as the 49ers stamp down their authority.

The Light Blues women’s campaign ended in misery last season, as they missed out on the SWPL1 title as well as a Champions League spot.

Jo Potter’s side had a calamity against Hibs, which meant they missed out on the title on the final day of the season.

Changes have already been made this summer, with Potter departing for Crystal Palace and Gers receiving a compensation fee for her services, and more business is set to be completed.

Rio Hardy heads to Bristol City

Rangers have struggled so far this summer, losing star Scotland midfielders Chelsea Cornet to Birmingham and Kirsty MacLean to Liverpool after they turned down new deals to stay in Glasgow.

The Bears have been left short of experience, with only 18-year-old left-back Fallon Connolly Jackson joining the squad.

The consequences of the Hibs defeat are hitting home even harder now, with Rangers Review (23 July) reporting that Rio Hardy is set to head south of the border to Bristol City.

Gers’ supporters have been left concerned with their pre-season friendly with Middlesbrough (27 July), coming at a time when the Light Blues lack any depth and are also managerless.

Hardy’s absence will hurt Rangers, having scored 50 goals in two seasons at the club, helping them to Scottish and League Cup success.

Craig McPherson, Andy Thomson and Chris Flockhart will take charge of the squad for the game against Boro as the Light Blues continue their search for a manager.

Rangers women need more backing

Rangers Women are going through a period of transition.

In contrast, the men’s team have made eight signings compared to the women’s team who have made just one.

The 49ers have spent big money on players for the men’s team, such as Thelo Aasgaard, but have yet to back the women, and that doesn’t seem right.
