Rangers ‘to win race’ ahead of Celtic as £2.1m Andrej Bacanin twist emerges

Rangers are reportedly keen on beating their rivals Celtic, as well as Ajax and Udinese to sign Andrej Bacanin.

The 18-year-old Serbian midfielder is in demand this summer and could be on the move before the window closes.

Currently, Bacanin is plying his trade at Belgrade-based club FK Cukaricki.

Cukaricki want to sell Andrej Bacanin for £2.1m fee

According to Edinburgh News journalist Barry Anderson (21 July), both Old Firm clubs are keen on him along with Ajax and Udinese.

Cukaricki are open to cashing in on the teenager, but they may come down to agreeing on a £2.1million fee in exchange for the Serbian’s services.

An exit is certainly on the cards for the Serbia Under-19s international as interest is heating up.

He has been likened to Lennon Miller but is available for cheaper than the Motherwell star.

Rangers should seriously consider signing Bacanin

Signing Bacanin would be a significant coup for Rangers, as the defensive midfielder is a highly rated prospect with immense potential.

His 19 senior appearances for Cukaricki and performances for Serbia’s youth team showcase his ability to compete at a high level despite his age.

Bacanin’s versatility, composure and defensive nous would bolster the Ibrox outfit’s midfield, providing depth and a long-term successor to ageing players.

Under Russell Martin, he could develop into a future first-team star, fitting the club’s strategy of nurturing young talent.

Beating Celtic to his signature would be particularly sweet, given the fierce Old Firm rivalry.

It would signal Rangers’ intent to close the 17-point gap from last season, boost fan morale and demonstrate their pulling power over their Glasgow rivals.

Whether or not an official bid is made remains to be seen, but it would be fair not to have too high expectations of him in the first season.
