Hamza Igamane ‘going nowhere’ after Martin plan for Rangers v Panathinaikos

Hamza Igamane may have to wait until the next transfer window, as Rangers face Panathinaikos in the Champions League.

The Gers will welcome the Greek outfit to Ibrox on Tuesday (22 July) in the first leg of the second qualifying round.

Russell Martin’s team will travel to Athens to face the Greens in the second leg on 30 July as they hope to make further progress in the European competition.

Igamane has been heavily linked with LOSC Lille in recent weeks, with other teams entering the race, but his exit could potentially be delayed.

Martin expects Igamane to play for Rangers against Panathinaikos

Martin has hinted that Igamane may feature for the Gers against Panathinaikos over the two legs.

The Scottish manager admitted that the 22-year-old centre-forward, along with Cyriel Dessers and Djeidi Gassama, aren’t ready to play 90 minutes, but could possibly get game time at Ibrox or the Olympic Stadium.

With the former AS FAR striker attracting interest from Feyenoord, Everton and Udinese as well, it looks like the 39-year-old head coach expects him to stay at least until the Bears face the Greek outfit.

Speaking to the media, as relayed by the Glaswegian outfit on X (21 July), Martin said: “Cyriel [Dessers], Hamza [Igamane] and Djeidi [Gassama] are all ready to contribute, not ready for 90 minutes just yet, but we will see them at some point over the two ties.”

Martin should push for Igamane replacement before exit

Igamane seems to be keen to leave Ibrox in the coming weeks, with the centre-forward reportedly already accepting personal terms with Lille.

The Morocco international enjoyed a breakout season at the Gers under Philippe Clement, and they have a chance to cash in on him.

With the prospect of making a hefty profit on the 22-year-old’s sale, it would make sense for the Light Blues to sell him, but they need to find a replacement before that.

Rangers signed Gassama from Sheffield Wednesday in the ongoing transfer window, but more additions are arguably needed up front.

The Glaswegian outfit could lose a lot of goals from their team if Cyriel Dessers also leaves for AEK Athens this summer.

Danilo has been impressive during pre-season, but the Gers evidently can’t rely on the Brazilian striker due to his consistent fitness issues.

Igamane’s future in G51 is one to keep an eye on.
