‘Ben Davies handed lifeline’ after Rangers and Leicester City development
Ben Davies has watched Russell Martin get to work with several new transfers in recent weeks following his appointment at Rangers.
Davies has struggled during his time at Ibrox and endured a turbulent 2024/25 campaign in which he was loaned out to English League One side Birmingham.
The former Liverpool man had been a regular during his first season in Glasgow, but the defender has since fallen out of favour.
However, the 29-year-old may have been given a slice of luck during Rangers’ hunt for a new centre back, which could keep him at Ibrox for a little longer.

Rangers delivered blow in the race for Coady
Russell Martin’s side have been credited with interest in Leicester City’s Coady this summer.
The defender has been a target at Ibrox all summer, and according to the Daily Record (20 July), both Rangers and Coady are keen for a move to be finalised before the clash with Panathinaikos on Thursday (24 July).
Martin has already named his squad for that UEFA Champions League qualifying first leg, but there is wiggle room to register two new players 24 hours ahead of it if any new signings are in the door by then.
However, the Gers seem no closer in the hunt for the former England international, after new Leicester boss Marti Cifuentes said he “liked what he saw” from the veteran defender.
The news from across the border isn’t exactly what Martin will want to hear, with it looking as if new Foxes boss Cifuentes may be taking his time to have a look at Coady.
This could have a major knock-on effect for Davies.

Davies could stay at Rangers after Leicester’s Coady delay
It looked as though Davies’ time in Glasgow was ending this summer.
Player | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Davies | 44 | 1 | 1 |
The defender already seemed to be walking on eggshells at Ibrox after Martin prioritised bringing in defensive reinforcements, which has forced him down the pecking order at Ibrox.
Martin could potentially wait to hear from Leicester for their decision on Coady, but that could risk them losing on targets elsewhere.
If the Gers are unable to get a centre back before the end of the transfer window, Davies could still have a future in Glasgow.
