Sir Alex Ferguson ‘mooted to join’ Rangers in backroom role

Russell Martin recently spoke about Sir Alex Ferguson and his involvement with Rangers since he was appointed.

The new Gers boss claims that the former Manchester United manager has been in regular touch with him and also came down to meet the squad.

He also admits that Ferguson is desperate for the team to do well ahead of their UEFA Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos.

Jonny McFarlane issues ‘really interesting’ verdict on Sir Alex Ferguson

Given Martin’s comments, Newsquest Scotland journalist Jonny McFarlane admits that he said some “really interesting” things about Ferguson.

He also pointed out that he’s been treated abysmally at Manchester United since INEOS took over a minority stake.

In a bid to cut costs, they have reduced Ferguson’s involvement at the club and also made changes to the salary he was being given.

The journalist believes that he would be a great ambassador for Gers given his connections in the game.

McFarlane wrote on X: “Really interesting comments regarding Sir Alex Ferguson and their regular contact.

“He’s been abysmally treated by Man United and would be a great figure to bring closer to the fold as an ambassador given connections across world football.”

Rangers must consider getting Ferguson on board as an ambassador

Ferguson would be an exceptional ambassador for Rangers due to his deep-rooted connection to the club and unparalleled footballing legacy.

Born in Govan, near Ibrox, Ferguson grew up supporting the club and played for them in the 1960s, giving him an authentic bond with the culture and fanbase.

His managerial career, marked by 49 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League titles with Manchester United, establishes him as one of football’s greatest minds, lending immense credibility and global recognition to Rangers.

His recent purchase of a Glasgow property near Ibrox and visits to Gers’ training centre signal his continued affinity.

As an ambassador, Ferguson could leverage his experience, media presence and network to enhance the Light Blues’ brand, attract talent and provide strategic insight, potentially guiding the club through their current challenges toward a brighter future.
