Rangers misinformation spread by SMSM, Ibrox transfer news looks fake
Rangers have been central to a number of transfer rumours at this stage of the summer.
The Gers are widely covered, and as a result, there are always widespread links throughout the transfer window at Ibrox.
To this point, many of those have turned out to be true, with six signings to this point, as Djeidi Gassama came in from Sheffield Wednesday most recently.
With that being said, the latest talk surrounding the Govan club appears to have been based on a source which doesn’t look to be trustworthy.

Rangers transfer update potentially based on fake news
It is always interesting to see who the Light Blues are going to be linked to next after what has been a busy window so far.
It is fair to say that Russell Martin has been fairly backed after coming in as head coach, with many clever moves agreed as opposed to big-money deals.
This looks likely to stand the G51 outfit in good stead moving into what fans will hope to be a positive Scottish Premiership campaign.
It doesn’t appear that their summer business is done, with many outlets reporting strong links to another Sheffield Wednesday ace in Pierce Charles.
This rumour has been published by the Scottish mainstream media, by the likes of the Daily Record, the Glasgow Times and Glasgow World (17 July), but the news appears to be based on misinformation.
This comes as the original source looks to be a randomly generated X account in the shape of Ed Johnson, who is nowhere to be found on any other form of social media or website.
The so-called freelance sports journalist’s page is fronted by a profile picture which has a 99 per cent chance of being AI-generated [Sight Engine, 18 July].
With that in mind, it is interesting to see these reports from various Scottish outlets, which feature no source and could all be based on information from this seemingly fake account.

Charles to Rangers rumours may be false
It would feel like an odd move from the Light Blues to bring in a goalkeeper at this stage of the window.
Martin has already confirmed that he is happy with Jack Butland and Liam Kelly as his two shot-stopping options moving into the new campaign.
It will certainly be interesting to now see if a move for the Northern Ireland international or if the media have been sold down the river by a potentially AI social media account.
