‘Rangers board could accept hefty Raskin bid despite what Martin wants’

Rangers look set to consider a sizable bid for Nico Raskin.

The Belgium international has been a rare bright spark for the Light Blues in the past year and has been linked with an Ibrox exit as a result.

Despite this, the 24-year-old has remained in Govan to this point and looks set to feature as Russell Martin prepares for the Panathinaikos tie.

With that in mind, the English head coach won’t want to lose his star midfielder, but the Gers’ hand could be forced by the right offer in G51.

Rangers could welcome big Raskin offer

From the outside looking in, it appears that the summer window has been largely positive in building a side ready for the new campaign.

This has most recently seen Djeidi Gassama come in from Sheffield Wednesday to add to a number of useful signings at this stage.

There have also been additions in the midfield to add to the conversation in the shape of Joe Rothwell, Lyall Cameron and Thelo Aasgaard.

This could ultimately afford an exit for someone like Raskin from Rangers, especially if the right bid were to come in from elsewhere.

With that in mind, the Scottish Sun have reported (18 July, page 52) that a “hefty bid” from LaLiga side Real Betis would be considered by the Ibrox board.

This comes despite Martin being keen to keep hold of the former Standard Liege man moving into his first season in the Govan dugout.

Raskin sale could fund further new deals

It could prove to be a bold move, but selling the Belgian to help complete more transfers may prove to be a positive step for Andrew Cavenagh and Co.

For too long, the Bears have been poor in the transfer market when it comes to buying and selling talent at the right time, for the right price.

To bring in a sizable fee for Raskin, less than two years after signing him, would certainly represent a much-needed profit and positive business move.

It may prove to be difficult to replace him effectively, but someone like Connor Barron could take that step up alongside any replacement additions in G51 moving forward.
