‘Josh Windass wants lucrative contract’ as Rangers transfer reality emerges
Josh Windass could potentially be looking for a payday after leaving Sheffield Wednesday amid interest from Rangers.
The 31-year-old’s contract at the EFL Championship outfit was terminated, and he’s now available as a free agent.
Windass’ return to Ibrox could be on the cards, with the Gers interested in the attacker after his impressive season at Hillsborough.
The Light Blues have already signed Djedi Gassama from Sheffield Wednesday, and the possible reality of the Englishman’s move to Glasgow has been shared.

Rangers transfer links lazy as Windass may want premium wages
Windass’ arrival at the Gers is hypothetical at the moment, Jonny McFarlane says.
The Scottish journalist believes the 31-year-old’s links to Ibrox are lazy and obvious due to his past association with the Light Blues.
McFarlane doesn’t think there’s anything factual regarding the versatile attacker’s transfer, but feels he may ask for premium wages wherever he goes next as a free agent.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
EFL Championship | 44 | 13 | 5 |
Speaking on The Rangers Review (18 July), the journalist said: “I don’t know if this is one of these ones where it’s just an obvious lazy link because Windass played in the past, he’s available for free, he’s part of the market that Rangers are shopping in.
“They’ve already shopped at Sheffield Wednesday so far this window. So they have been watching them. I get why people are talking about it. But I don’t think we’ve substantiated it from a Rangers Review point of view. So I wouldn’t be getting too excited. This is more of a hypothetical at the moment rather than anything factual.
“He’s a £5m player who’s available for nothing, and that’s going to entice premium wages, I would think.”
Cyriel Dessers replacement could be found in Windass at Ibrox
AEK Athens want to sign Cyriel Dessers from the Gers this summer, and they may need a replacement for him soon.
The Nigeria international was the Light Blues’ leading goalscorer last season, and they will arguably need to find a quality attacker to make a similar impact if he leaves.
Hamza Igamane could also join LOSC Lille soon, and Russell Martin could be left with a dearth of options up front before the end of August.
Windass’ numbers at Rangers were decent, with the 31-year-old scoring 18 goals in the 2017/18 campaign before leaving for Wigan Athletic.
The English attacker matured into a leader at Sheffield Wednesday and would undoubtedly be able to contribute at the Gers if signed.
With Ianis Hagi’s contract ending at the Light Blues, they could do with a playmaker in their ranks ahead of next season, and Windass may be the bargain option they are looking for.
