Rangers ‘to revisit Pierce Charles transfer’ as Ibrox deal collapses
Rangers are keen on signing a goalkeeper, but their options may be limited this summer.
Russell Martin does not appear to trust Jack Butland and Liam Kelly as his only options and wants to strengthen the goalkeeping roster.
Rangers were interested in Brighton ace Carl Rushworth, but a deal has now collapsed, and with the new campaign approaching fast, a solution will be needed.
Djeidi Gassama was one of several summer signings as the winger joined from Sheffield Wednesday, and his teammate Pierce Charles could now follow him to Glasgow.

Rangers could return for Charles deal
Charles is a top young prospect who has impressed in limited appearances in the Championship, and he is on Rangers’ radar for the summer.
The 19-year-old made his breakthrough midway through last season and overtook James Beadle in the pecking order to start during the run-in.

As reported by The Scottish Sun (July 17), Rangers were interested in Charles previously, but Sheffield Wednesday’s asking price was too high.
However, with a deal for Rushworth since collapsing, and Rangers urgently seeking a goalkeeper, they could now revisit a move, and their stance over his asking price may have softened.

Charles is a high-reward gamble for Rangers
Charles’ inexperience will raise question marks over whether he is ready to start for Rangers, and whether it is worth spending a significant amount to bring him in.
However, the teenage goalkeeper has showcased his talent, and if he continues to develop well, he will arrive with a lot of resale value and the potential to become the long-term number one at Ibrox.
Although a high-risk deal, the reward if Charles performs well outweighs the cost, and with Butland still at the club, the new signing could be given time to settle in.
The pursuit of Rushworth indicates that Rangers are looking for a prospect goalkeeper rather than an experienced one, and a deal for Charles could prove to be a bargain in the long run.
