Metinho set for medical to join FC Basel
Gers will have to look at alternate midfield options this summer, according to former Football Scotland news editor Mark Hendry.
Via his Substack on 17 July, Hendry claimed that the Brazilian is set to join FC Basel this summer.
He was at the Swiss club on loan since January and will now be moving there on a permanent basis.

Rangers were keen on Metinho but will now have to consider other options to bolster their midfield ahead of the new season.
The 22-year-old was on their shortlist for this summer, but he’s now set to undergo a medical at Basel.
Rangers need to prioritise a new striker
Metinho’s decision not to join Rangers is not a significant setback, as the signing of Joe Rothwell adequately bolsters their midfield.
Rothwell brings proven Championship and Premier League experience, offering creativity and stability to Gers’ engine room.
His loan move, with an option to buy, aligns with the Ibrox outfit’s strategy to compete in the Scottish Premiership and Champions League qualifiers.
However, the absence of a quality striker remains a pressing concern.
With Cyriel Dessers underperforming, signing a proven goal-scorer is critical to challenge Celtic’s dominance and succeed in Europe.
