Rangers ‘to profit from Gassama’ as discounted transfer announced – Exclusive

Rangers have finally announced the signing of Djeidi Gassama.

After a hold-up on the Sheffield Wednesday side of the deal, Rangers were finally able to announce the arrival of Gassama on Tuesday (15 July).

The Frenchman was spotted in Rangers attire last week, before reports of a complication emerged amid the ongoing struggles at Hillsborough.

However, Russell Martin has finally got his man, and the general consensus is that they have got him at a discounted price.

Gassama deal set to represent value for money at Ibrox

Gassama had an excellent campaign in the Championship last season for Sheffield Wednesday, despite the Owls struggling in general for reasons on and off the pitch.

His displays attracted attention from around Europe, but it was the Light Blues that won the race, and Sheffield Wednesday journalist Joe Crann believes he arrived much cheaper than he would have in usual circumstances, with a fee reported in the region of £2.2million.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, he said: “I think there has to be a bit of patience with Djeidi, because it’s obviously a new league and he’ll be going up against teams with a low block every week, given Rangers’ status in the league.

“So there’s probably a bit of a shift needed for him, and that could take a bit of time. But he’s got a very high ceiling and there’s loads of room for growth.

“I’d say that Rangers are getting Gassama for about half of what he probably should be going for, and what he probably would be going for if Wednesday weren’t in such dire straits.

“That’s the general consensus among fans, too, and I’d be surprised if Rangers don’t make a bit of profit on him in years to come, because he’s got plenty of potential.

Rangers making significant progress ahead of 2025/26 campaign

Investment was needed this summer, and recruitment plans certainly need to be improved; both of these tasks have certainly been ticked off so far this summer, though there is still work to do.

Rangers were light years away from Celtic last season, who have also strengthened this summer.

Several more additions will be expected at Ibrox in the coming weeks, with brighter times surely ahead.
