Djeidi Gassama issues emerge as Rangers transfer ‘in jeopardy’
Rangers are reportedly intent on making Sheffield Wednesday winger Djeidi Gassama their seventh summer signing.
Russell Martin is well into his rebuild at Ibrox as he’s keen on bringing the Mauritania-born attacker to the club.
Last season, the 21-year-old bagged seven goals in 43 league appearances for Wednesday.

Djeidi Gassama deal still has minor issues that need sorting
According to the Daily Record (14 July), there are said to be some “minor issues” regarding his move to Glasgow.
Rangers remain on course to announce Gassama’s transfer in the next 24 hours, but it’s not yet a 100 per cent done.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes Played |
---|---|---|---|---|
Championship | 43 | 7 | 1 | 2,993′ |
FA Cup | 1 | – | – | 67′ |
EFL Cup | 3 | 1 | – | 137′ |
Total | 47 | 8 | 1 | 3,197′ |
Should he join, he will be putting pen to paper on a four-year contract at the Ibrox outfit.
He will then join up with the squad as Martin is getting his side ready in their pre-season campaign at Auchenhowie.

Rangers will be hoping the Gassama issues are sorted
It remains to be seen what the issues exactly are as Rangers will not want this deal to fall through.
The fact that there is optimism about the deal being announced means that all parties expect things to go through.
However, there have been transfers that have been 99 per cent done and then fallen through, so fans’ scepticism is undoubtedly justified.
The transfer could thus be in jeopardy if these minor issues result in the deal being held up.
The sooner he’s announced, the quicker he can join his new teammates and adapt to their style of play.
Martin has a distinct playing philosophy so the training sessions are expected to be intense and it may take some time before everyone at the club is on the same page.
