Russell Martin ‘formally put on Rangers notice’ after events at Ibrox

Russell Martin faces a big task at Rangers this summer after taking over at Ibrox.

The Scotsman returned to the Gers as manager last month as he seeks to end Celtic’s dominance of the Scottish Premiership

However, this is no easy task, and multiple signings have been made to help Rangers challenge for the title.

Nevertheless, expectations are high at Ibrox, as fans hope to witness the start of a new golden era at the Gers.

Martin knows Rangers fans expectations after Club Brugge draw

Martin oversaw his first game at Ibrox last week as Rangers drew 2-2 with Club Brugge

While there were positives, there were also plenty of negatives, with the Gers being booed off at half-time.

Now, Hugh Keevins has told the Daily Record (13 July) that Martin has now been “formally put on notice” regarding how things work at Rangers.

The Scotsman is in a world of “non-negotiables” and has now learnt that draws at Ibrox are unacceptable, especially when the competitive season starts later this month.

The journalist goes on to say that Martin’s signings now must prevent their manager from following the route of his predecessors, who achieved little at Rangers before they all eventually got the boot.

Winning ugly could be crucial to a successful season at Rangers, and this is something that the Glaswegians must learn.

A quick start is imperative for Martin

There are always fans who will doubt a new manager upon his appointment, and this experience will be no different for Martin.

Therefore, it is imperative that the Scotsman gets off to a quick start at the Gers, to silence any early critics.

Victory in the Champions League qualifiers later this month would be fantastic, and a great way to start his Rangers career.

The Old Firm derby is also set for late August, in which Martin will likely be judged heavily on the result.

Another win here, and the manager may have the momentum to win the title. However, if defeated, he may struggle to win over fans early in his Rangers career.
