Rangers ‘to sign’ Luuk de Jong on short-term contract

Rangers are reportedly keen on signing former Barcelona and Newcastle striker Luuk de Jong this summer.

Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert, has assessed the 34-year-old’s age and fitness ahead of a potential move to Scotland.

With his contract at PSV Eindhoven running out, he is now available on a free transfer.

Luuk de Jong expected to clear his medical

The striker with 39 caps for the Netherlands is not expected to have issues clearing his medical, according to Dr Brar.

Rangers are believed to be keen on de Jong as they want to sign a striker who can lead the line next season.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, exclusively told Ibrox News: “Considering his age and matches played, the club may take a closer look at general wear and tear to assess for outliers or high-risk issues.

“Rangers could mitigate through a shorter-term contract.

“His fitness and injury history suggest he should clear his medical.”

Rangers should consider De Jong on a short-term contract

Signing de Jong on a short-term contract would be a shrewd move for Rangers.

At 34, the former PSV captain brings proven goal-scoring prowess, netting 18 goals and providing 13 assists in the Eredivisie and Champions League last season.

His experience at top clubs like Barcelona and Sevilla, combined with leadership qualities, would bolster Gers’ attack and dressing room.

As a free agent, he represents a low-risk, high-reward option, fitting the Ibrox outfit’s need for a reliable centre-forward amid potential departures of Dessers and Igamane.

De Jong’s physicality and scoring record suit the Scottish Premiership and his Champions League pedigree could elevate Rangers’ European campaign, all without a long-term financial commitment.
