Rangers insight emerges as Malik Tillman secures blockbuster transfer
Rangers’ preparations for life under Russell Martin are already well underway.
Martin has been backed well so far in the transfer market, securing notable signings such as Nasser Djija and Joe Rothwell that will hopefully make the same impact as players like Malik Tillman in years gone by.
The Gers’ first pre-season match ended in a 2-2 draw against Club Brugge, backing that up with another stalemate against Barnsley on Saturday.
Despite all the fresh faces to arrive at Ibrox in the recent days and weeks, Tillman has strangely been in the middle of the conversation.

Tillman’s move to Bayer Leverkusen announced
Robin Propper looks set to join Tillman as a former Rangers player, with the defender on the verge of joining FC Twente.
Tillman joined the Light Blues on loan from Bayern Munich back in 2022, where the attacking midfielder had an impressive spell in Glasgow.

Following his loan spell, Bayern Munich activated a clause to cancel Rangers’ purchase option for Tillman before sending him to PSV, with the Dutch giants eventually opting to purchase the American.
As compensation, Rangers received £1million as well as 10 per cent of any future deal agreed.
With Tillman joining PSV for around £10.8million, Rangers received their cut, but his recent move to Bayer Leverkusen has caused some confusion after weeks of talks.
David Edgar posted from the Heart & Hand Podcast account on X (12 July) to clear up any confusion surrounding Tillman’s £34.6million move.
“Hopefully, put this to bed here: Rangers don’t get anything from this deal,” he said.
This came after some Rangers fans mistakenly thought they were entitled to another cut of Tillman’s transfer from PSV to Leverkusen.
Attacking reinforcements needed for Martin
For all the good work in the window so far by the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh, there are still key areas of Martin’s squad that need to be strengthened before their Champions League qualifiers later in August against Panathinaikos.
Hamza Igamane’s spell in G51 looks to be drawing to a close, with LOSC Lille wanting to sign the Morocco international.
This makes it even more critical that Rangers fend off interest from Manchester United to bring Jamie Vardy north of the border.
Either way, the final third is set for major changes next, but with zero help from Tillman’s latest move.
