Ferguson excited by news of transfer Rangers are set to pull off – ‘I’ve heard…’

Rangers have sent their transfer activity into overdrive in July.

The Ibrox club have recruited several handy players this month, and there’s no sign of them stopping soon.

Russell Martin is aiming to build a team capable of overcoming Panathinaikos in the Champions League tie. The first leg of that match takes place at Ibrox on 22 July.

Rangers close in on Djeidi Gassama deal

Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has urged Rangers to continue signing players with great urgency.

Ferguson was speaking as Sheffield Wednesday appeared to be dilly-dallying over the transfer of winger Djeidi Gassama.

In an exclusive interview with Ibrox News, he claimed that Rangers couldn’t afford to deal with delays, but he is excited about what he has heard about Gassama.

He said: “Rangers need players in as fast as they can. That European game is just two weeks away. This is a new group, and they need time to gel on the training pitch. We need a decision one way or another.

We need wide players because the lads around either haven’t proved themselves or have been injured. I’ve heard that he’s a decent player and can play both wings. We definitely need wingers and forward players.”

Rangers fans told not to worry about Gassama transfer

The delay over the Gassama transfer had caused concern among some Rangers fans.

This hold-up is supposedly due to the ongoing ownership trouble at Sheffield Wednesday. Gassama himself remains keen to make the move.

Martin told the media on Friday (11 July) that the transfer is all done at their end, and it’s now a case of waiting for the Owls to comply with their demands.

As things stand, it looks likely that Gassama will be available to face Panathinaikos on 22 July.

Gassama offers a different threat to the other wingers at Rangers. He is very direct with the ball, has pace to burn and isn’t afraid to take on his defender. He also has a rocket of a right foot and is capable of scoring screamers from outside the box.

At 21 years old, he could develop into a key player for Rangers for years to come. However, the priority at this moment will be getting this transfer over the line.
