Jamie Vardy transfer: ‘Here’s my understanding of Leicester legend’s move to Rangers’

Rangers are eyeing a move for Premier League legend Jamie Vardy this summer.

The 38-year-old is available on a free transfer following 13 years at Leicester City, after deciding against renewing his contract with the Foxes.

Rangers could lose both Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane in the coming weeks, with AEK Athens and Lille, respectively, interested in the pair.

And former Southampton man Russell Martin is hoping to rebuild the squad ahead of his first season at Ibrox.

Vardy move unlikely

Vardy’s story is one of Premier League legend. Joining Leicester from non-league side Fleetwood for around £1million in 2012, the forward would fire the Foxes into the top division, playing a role as they completed the great escape in the following season.

And in the iconic 2015/16 season, Vardy would score 24 goals as Leicester won the Premier League – arguably the most incredible achievement in English top-flight history.

And the Englishman did not stop there, consistently scoring for the Foxes as league-winning teammates, including Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante, completed big money moves elsewhere.

Vardy would have 200 goals for Leicester when all was said and done, with 145 of those coming in the Premier League – a tally that would earn him a golden boot and recognition as one of the league’s greatest-ever strikers.

Remarkably, despite his age, Vardy still started 35 of Leicester’s league matches last season, netting nine goals as the Foxes suffered immediate relegation back to the Championship.

The striker’s incredible fitness and still-sharp finishing has reportedly sparked Rangers interest, but, according to Scottish Sun journalist Roger Hannah, a deal is unlikely.

Hannah explained that he doesn’t see Vardy as a genuine target for the Gers, with a potential move, in his understanding, not going to happen.

Vardy is still a brilliant option

If Rangers are really not genuinely interested in a move for Vardy, they should be.

At 38, the striker still offers guaranteed goals and availability, and could thrive in the Scottish Premiership.

Vardy is a certified Premier League great, and just the forward’s name alone would spark excitement throughout the stands at The Ibrox.

With Dessers and Igamane’s futures looking increasingly uncertain, a move for the ex-Premier League winner could be exactly what Martin is looking for.
