Hugh Keevins shares what he’s heard from only person in the same room as Rangers chiefs
Rangers have had big expectations attached to them since the 49ers completed their takeover at the start of June.
Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe will be under plenty of scrutiny as they lead the Gers into their new era next term, and they have already made a major call by appointing Russell Martin as the club’s new boss.
The takeover has brought expectations of lavish spending and rapid change at Ibrox, but the reality has been very different so far.
The new owners have taken a fairly measured approach so far, both on a boardroom level and in the transfer market.

Keevins shares ‘humility with confidence’ verdict on Cavenagh and Marathe
Thelo Aasgaard became the latest man to join Rangers on Saturday (5 July), and his signing has followed the example set by the majority of the Gers’ business so far.
Significant outlays have not been spent on any of the six new additions so far, which is arguably the opposite of what was perhaps expected.
Instead, all of the big-money dealings have concerned players potentially departing Govan. Martin is facing a battle to keep the likes of Hamza Igamane, while Nico Raskin’s future is also thought to be uncertain.
The interest currently being faced is the first genuine challenge of the new regime, and how they choose to handle it could define the early part of their tenure.
The Daily Record’s Hugh Keevins has now revealed what he has heard about Cavenagh and Marathe (6 July).
“The only person I know who has been in the same room as Cavenagh and Marathe summed up the men in just three words,” Keevins wrote.
“Humility with confidence. Testimonials don’t need to be lengthy and flowery.”

Keevins’ suggestion is a positive sign for Rangers
Keevins’ reveal on Cavenagh and Marathe should surely provide a sense of positivity for the Rangers faithful.
The assessment of the pair suggests an air of calmness behind them, and a willingness to take a back seat will surely be welcome news given the way some owners tend to operate in today’s game.
Much has been made of the new transfer strategy that is set to be implemented at Rangers, but the ability to make measured and considered decisions can often be overlooked in the running of a football club.
This approach may not deliver results immediately for the Gers, but it should at least spell an end to the brash nature with which they have tended to make decisions over the last few generations.
