Brendan Rodgers dig at Rangers revealed as new Celtic footage emerges

Brendan Rodgers will spark the fury of Rangers supporters after new footage emerged from the Premier Sports Cup final.

The clash ended with a 3-3 draw, and the Scottish Premiership champions came out on top in a penalty shootout at Hampden Park (15 December).

The contest was controversial as Philippe Clement’s side were denied a penalty when Liam Scales pulled Vaclav Cerny to the ground in extra-time.

Had the Light Blues won the cup over their arch-rivals, their campaign may have been different and the Belgian may have kept his job.

Rangers will be furious after new Rodgers dig revealed

Rangers had a dismal season, winning no silverware and ultimately going through two managers, with Barry Ferguson departing when the campaign was over.

It is impossible to predict how it would have gone had they won the competition, but it could have kept Clement in the job and reinvigorated the Gers.

A documentary that was released by the Hoops (5 July) shows footage of the aftermath of the cup final, and Rodgers is spotted mocking the Gers.

In the dressing room after his side had won the trophy, he said: “If we play well, we win.

“If we don’t play well, we win.”

Rangers need to be closer to Celtic this season

The new season brings a fresh chance to catch up with their Glasgow rivals and the Light Blues are taking the right steps after finishing 17 points behind.

The new majority ownership, the 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh have appointed Russell Martin as manager and have added significantly already.

Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez and Thelo Aasgaard have come into Ibrox and should raise the levels for the new campaign.

There are further additions expected, with the likes of David Brooks and Jamie Vardy linked with a move to the Govan outfit.

The mood in G51 should be a lot brighter than it was last time around, however, whether that is false optimism will become clearer as the season progresses.

Whether they can catch Rodgers’ side remains to be seen, but the latest footage should give them the motivation to try their very hardest to do so, if they did not have it already.
