Ben Davies ‘now finished at Rangers’ after Russell Martin announcement

Rangers welcomed Club Brugge to Ibrox for their first game of pre-season on Sunday, sparking a new era for the club and fans.

Russell Martin took charge of his first official game as manager, the first since the Ibrox club changed ownership, battling from behind to a 2-2 draw.

There have been plenty of changes off the pitch for Rangers, and several new signings have also arrived in Glasgow already.

However, Martin sprung a surprise with his announced team, which saw Rangers go two down early on before finding a late equaliser, and there are strong indications that players are about to leave Ibrox.

Ben Davies absent as Robin Propper starts for Rangers

Some of the new signings were absent from the matchday squad, including Thelo Aasgaard, following his move from Luton Town.

Several players were expected to leave Rangers this summer, but there has not been much activity with regard to outgoings, yet.

Robin Propper has been linked with a return to FC Twente, but he was remarkably selected to start against Club Brugge.

The centre-back endured a disastrous campaign last season and was selected ahead of Ben Davies, who was absent from the squad entirely, and it is now clear that he has no future at Rangers.

Davies could return to Birmingham

Davies spent last season on loan at Birmingham City and played a key part as they earned promotion back to the Championship.

Despite his impressive campaign, he was snubbed by Martin for the opening pre-season game, while Kieran Dowell was selected following his loan alongside the defender.

With Propper chosen ahead of Davies, it is clear that the 29-year-old will need to find a new club, and a return to Birmingham could be on the cards.

The Blues have spent heavily since their promotion, and it could suit all parties if Davies were to head back there this summer.

Davies made 44 appearances for Birmingham last season and could now be set to depart Ibrox permanently with no opportunity to impress his new manager.

Gers fans will hope that the same happens to Propper, and will be mystified that the defender was included despite his impending exit.
