‘Rangers to announce Coady and Djiga transfer next week’ after Martin admission

Rangers could potentially have a massive week coming up as they look to reinforce Russell Martin’s squad this transfer window.

Leicester City defender Conor Coady is a concrete target for the Gers, and it feels like a matter of time before he arrives at Ibrox.

Wolves centre-back Nasser Djiga is also closing in on a loan move to the Light Blues after struggling for game time in the Premier League last season.

Martin has now seemingly revealed the imminent arrival of new signings as the Glaswegian outfit train under the Scottish manager during pre-season.

Martin admits Rangers to sign targets in coming weeks as Coady and Djiga transfer on agenda

Martin is pleased with the work Kevin Thelwell and Dan Purdy have been doing this summer.

The former Southampton head coach is delighted by the Gers’ transfer business so far, having held multiple discussions and meetings at Ibrox.

With Coady and Djiga on the Glaswegian outfit’s radar, the Scottish manager may have hinted at their arrival next week.

Speaking to RangersTV (4 July), Martin said: “Watching Kevin and Dan and the guys work, they are working tirelessly to make sure we get the right ones. We have a lot of discussions, a lot of meetings, but I think the ones we have got in the building are brilliant, we are so pleased with them.

“The ones that we are thinking will come into the building in the next week or two, we will be so pleased with them.”

Martin must push for new transfer before Panathinaikos clash

Martin has a big task against Panathinaikos in the Champions League qualifier at home on 22 July, and the Gers should sign a majority of their targets before then.

The Light Blues have done some decent business so far, signing Max Aarons on loan from Bournemouth, Joe Rothwell on a permanent transfer after his impressive season at Leeds United and Peterborough United defender Emmanuel Fernandez.

There’s still a lot that arguably must be done to build a competitive team for the Scottish manager at the Glaswegian outfit.

Rangers may lose Hamza Igamane to LOSC Lille soon, prioritising the addition of a new number nine this summer.

Cyriel Dessers could also be on the chopping block, with AEK Athens pushing for the Nigeria international’s transfer.

With Vaclav Cerny and Ianis Hagi leaving, quality attacking additions are undoubtedly needed, but it remains to be seen who the Gers will sign.

For now, fans will be happy to see the Light Blues’ defensive issues being addressed.
