49ers and Cavenagh ‘not messing around’ as £3.5m spent on new Rangers recruit

Rangers are very active in the summer transfer window as they aim to bridge the gap to Celtic

Ahead of Russell Martin’s first season in charge at Ibrox, he has already made some notable additions to his Rangers squad.

The Gers continue to show their ambition in the transfer market, with quality operators such as David Brooks and Jamie Vardy being linked to Ibrox.

How new signings such as Joe Rothwell adapt to playing in Scotland remains to be seen, but on paper, Rangers supporters have every reason to get excited by their recent arrivals.

Rangers secure Thelo Aasgaard signing

Thelo Aasgaard is the latest recruit to join, with the attacking midfielder completing a move from Luton Town on Saturday (5 July).

According to The Scotsman (5 July), Rangers paid around £3.5million to secure the Norwegian international’s services, with the midfielder set to don the number 11 shirt next season.

Aasgaard moves to Rangers after only joining Luton in January.

Aasgaard becomes signing number five of the window so far for Rangers, joining the likes of Max Aarons and Emmanuel Fernandez in Glasgow.

New faces are set to continue to arrive at Ibrox, with Wolves defender Nasser Djiga close to joining the Glasgow club on loan as the 49ers aim to weaken Celtic’s stranglehold on the Scottish Premiership title.

No messing around from the 49ers

The 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh recognise the magnitude of the job on their hands to catch Celtic and prevent them from winning their fifth title in a row.

They have gone about their business quickly and efficiently so far this summer, paying a substantial fee to secure Aasgaard’s signature.

By the end of the window, Martin will likely be equipped with more than enough firepower to challenge for Scottish football’s biggest trophy.

The only criticism some supporters may have is that Rangers do not seem to be reigniting their interest in Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller, with the decision being described as “inexplicable” by journalist Scott McDermott.
