Thelo Aasgaard ‘completes medical’ as Rangers transfer fee to Luton revealed
Rangers appear close to finalising yet another summer transfer as Thelo Aasgaard looks to be Ibrox-bound.
Russell Martin has told the Gers hierarchy the players he wants and the rebuild appears to be going as he wants.
Aasgaard, a midfielder, will be securing his permanent exit from Luton Town after their relegation to League One.
After five impressive seasons with Wigan, he moved to Luton in the January 2025 window.
However, their failure to retain their Championship status saw him make a decision to leave them.

Thelo Aasgaard completes a part of his medical ahead of £3m transfer
Initially, it appeared that Rangers would be paying £5million to Luton for the Norway international.
However, the Daily Record reported on 4 July that he will cost them only £3million this summer.
Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
Wigan | 163 | 30 | 11 |
Luton | 17 | 2 | 1 |
He has already completed one part of his medical in England on Friday and has travelled to Glasgow to finalise the move.
Once he signs the paperwork, he will become the fourth new player to walk through the door since Martin took over the reins at the club.

Rangers must ensure Aasgaard has a good pre-season
Ensuring Aasgaard has a strong pre-season is critical for Rangers as he nears a £3million transfer from Luton Town, given his potential to transform their midfield.
The 23-year-old Norwegian’s signing is a step towards addressing the Ibrox outfit’s lack of midfield creativity last season.
A robust pre-season, including friendlies, will help him adapt to Martin’s possession-based style and build chemistry with teammates and also new signings like Max Aarons, Emmanuel Fernandez and Joe Rothwell.
His integration is vital ahead of the Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos, where his physicality and technical ability could shine.
A poor pre-season risks stunting his confidence and impact, potentially jeopardising fan scepticism, as seen with past signings.
A successful pre-season could cement Aasgaard’s role, boosting Rangers’ Scottish Premiership and European ambitions.
