’49ers risk ridicule’ as John Swift to Rangers update emerges
Rangers have already made several additions to their squad under the ownership of the 49ers.
Emmanuel Fernandez became the latest arrival at Ibrox, joining the Light Blues in a reported £3.5million deal from Peterborough United.
His addition follows the likes of Max Aarons and Lyall Cameron, who have both signed up to take Rangers back to the summit of Scottish football under Russell Martin.
Rangers’ transfer business will be far from over yet, though, with a new target linked with a move to Glasgow, in former West Brom midfielder John Swift.

Martin certainly looks as though he will be backed throughout his time at Rangers, and if the Gers are to have any hope of competing with Celtic next season, that needs to happen.
Bolstering his forward line will be a priority, especially if both Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers leave, but the latest links suggest that another midfield arrival could be on the cards.
Via Sportsboom (2 July), ex-West Brom midfielder Swift has been linked with a move to Ibrox, with several EFL Championship clubs also in the hunt.

Swift | 36 | 3 | 1 |
On the face of it, and given the fact that it would be a free transfer, it doesn’t seem like a bad bit of business should they pursue it, but his recent performances paint a different picture.
The 30-year-old offered nothing for the Baggies last season, with many of their supporters glad to see the back of him this summer.
If the 49ers do go ahead with this deal, they would be opening themselves up for ridicule, given the likelihood that he would struggle to match the demands at the top of Scottish football.

Martin needs proven quality at Rangers
Signing the likes of Aarons and Cameron makes a lot of sense for the Light Blues, given they have shown plenty of promise in recent years.
However, many more additions of that calibre will be needed this summer if they are to right their wrongs from the previous campaign.
