‘Rangers set to sign another defender’ after Nasser Djiga transfer talks

Wolves centre-back Nasser Djiga could soon be a Rangers player as talks have been held regarding a move to Ibrox.

The 22-year-old joined Vitor Pereira’s team in the winter transfer window for £10million from Serbian side Red Star Belgrade.

Kevin Thelwell is tasked with replacing Leon Balogun this summer, with more additions arguably needed in defence.

Leicester City’s Conor Coady has been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox, with a move expected to be imminent, and another centre-back could follow him to Glasgow.

Djiga in talks to join Rangers on loan from Wolves

Djiga is in talks to sign for the Gers on loan from Wolves, according to Liam Keen.

The Express & Star journalist revealed on X (2 July) that the Light Blues are likely to get the Burkina Faso international on a temporary move without an option to buy.

It’s been claimed that the Premier League outfit’s hierarchy want the 22-year-old to adapt to British football with regular game time away from Molineux Stadium.

In the previous campaign, the defender played around 65 minutes for Pereira’s team in the English top flight, and a move to Ibrox makes sense.

Thelwell pulling strings as Djiga transfer a massive coup

Thelwell has been handed a significant task at Ibrox after becoming the new sporting director, and the squad overhaul so far looks encouraging.

Bournemouth right-back Max Aarons completed a switch to the Gers on loan recently, with the former Everton chief likely using his connections in the Premier League.

Joe Rothwell and Coady are certainly players who Thelwell played a massive role in convincing to make a move to the Glaswegian outfit.

While Rangers fans may argue that they are signing possible Premier League rejects, the potential incomings undoubtedly possess immense quality for Scottish football.

Djiga’s mega-money move to Wolves is an indication of his potential, and hopefully, the Burkinabe defender can help the Gers succeed next season.

The Light Blues suffered multiple issues in their backline last season, and it’s encouraging to see Thelwell address that issue.

Russell Martin will surely want to see more quality players come through the door at Ibrox during pre-season, and the situation in G51 seems exciting under the new ownership.
