Rangers set to seal new transfer amid Joe Rothwell medical update

Rangers appear to be on the verge of securing the services of Bournemouth midfielder Joe Rothwell this summer.

The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Leeds United and played a role in helping them get promoted to the Premier League.

Russell Martin has been keen on adding midfielders to his side and appears likely to link up with the Englishman.

With Max Aarons arriving on loan and Lyall Cameron joining on a free, Rothwell will be the third first-team signing of the summer.

The former Southampton midfielder is expected to be a first-team regular at Ibrox next season.

Nico Raskin can form a good partnership with Rothwell at Rangers

To ensure Nico Raskin and Rothwell form a strong midfield partnership at Rangers, Martin should leverage their complementary skill sets within his high-pressing, possession-based system.

Raskin, a dynamic, tenacious No.6, excels in breaking up play and dictating tempo and is arguably the most important player.

Rothwell, a technically gifted midfielder with experience under Martin at Southampton, brings energy, tackling and high pass completion, ideal for maintaining pressure high up the pitch.

Martin should position Raskin as the deeper pivot, allowing him to anchor and distribute, while Rothwell operates as a box-to-box No.8, utilising his ability to carry the ball and make interceptions.

Regular tactical drills emphasising quick, short passing and coordinated pressing will foster chemistry.

Martin must also encourage open communication to build trust, ensuring they cover each other’s movements.

By aligning their roles with clear responsibilities, the Belgian, focusing on defensive solidity and the Englishman on progressive play, Martin can create a balanced, cohesive midfield that drives the Ibrox outfit’s ambitions in the Scottish Premiership and Europe.
