Emmanuel Fernandez ‘set to join’ as Rangers transfer wishlist revealed
Peterborough United centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez has been linked with a move to Rangers this summer.
Russell Martin is keen on bringing at least another defender to Ibrox in the coming weeks.
Max Aarons joined from Bournemouth on loan and now the heart of the defence requires strengthening as well.

Emmanuel Fernandez high up on the transfer wishlist
According to Rangers Review (2 July), Fernandez is high up on the transfer wishlist this summer.
The club want to bring in another centre-back along with Leicester City ace Conor Coady and the 23-year-old is one of the top candidates.
Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
Peterborough | 61 | 7 | 0 |
Barnet | 8 | 0 | 0 |
Fernandez stands at 6 feet 4 inches and has a decent amount of experience in the EFL for Peterborough, making 61 appearances.
While he can play as a right-back as well, he is best suited in a centre-back role.
He’s still got two more years left on his deal at the League One outfit.

Coady appears to be the priority for Rangers
Coady and Fernandez are both strong candidates for the Ibrox outfit, but Coady should be prioritised due to his proven leadership and experience.
Coady, a 32-year-old centre-back, has over 300 Premier League appearances, captaining Wolves to promotion and European qualification.
His ball-playing ability suits Martin’s possession-based style, while his vocal leadership and organisational skills would stabilise Rangers’ backline, crucial for high-stakes Old Firm derbies and European matches.
Fernandez offers long-term potential with his physicality and goal-scoring instincts.
However, his lack of top-tier experience makes him a riskier choice for immediate impact, but he should be signed alongside and not instead of the Leicester defender.
Coady’s proven track record in high-pressure environments, ability to mentor younger players and alignment with Martin’s tactics make him the priority signing to bolster Rangers’ defence and push for SPFL dominance, while Fernandez could be a future investment.
