Hamza Igamane expected fee emerges as Rangers exit agreement close

Hamza Igamane’s Rangers exit is edging closer.

The Gers look set to make a hefty profit on the Moroccan, who scored 12 Scottish Premiership goals after he was signed for £1.5million last summer from FAR Rabat.

David Edgar had reported (26 June) that Rangers had turned down a £14million package from Lille and were seeking more for their promising star.

However, it appears that their demands have lowered after the latest update on the 22-year-old’s future.

Rangers expected fee for Igamane revealed

Rangers are destined to lose Igamane, with reports from Morocco (30 June) claiming that an agreement had been reached with the French club.

However, Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri (1 July) claimed that talks are still underway between the two clubs about the Moroccan.

He states that an agreement is expected to be around the £12.8million mark with bonuses included in that figure, with personal terms already sorted.

Igamane fee is a disappointment for Rangers

If the fee reported by Tavolieri is accurate, then it is nothing short of a disappointment for the Gers, if they were negotiating around the £14m mark as shared.

If they have lowered their asking price and take £12.8m with bonuses included, then it is a poor business decision from the new majority owners, the 49ers Enterprises Group and Andrew Cavenagh.

They could have asked for more, and would likely have gotten it because the Ligue 1 side are not the only team interested in Igamane, there is Premier League interest from the likes of Everton and West Ham, which could have sparked a bidding war.

The reality is probably that the fee is higher than what has been reported, as surely, they would not let the French outfit negotiate down; if anything, they would have gone upwards for a player of his potential.

It will be a shame not to see Igamane tearing up defences at Ibrox next season, but the money will be vital for Russell Martin and Co to strengthen the squad and try to catch up with Celtic, who finished 17 points ahead of the Light Blues last season.

The hope is that they spend it wisely.
