Shankland set for move as Hearts source speaks out amid Rangers transfer news

Rangers could now look to add Lawrence Shankland to their ranks this summer.

The Scotland international has been continuously linked with a move to Ibrox in the past 12 months after a stellar spell with Hearts.

It is fair to say that the 29-year-old has been one of the better players in the Scottish Premiership since signing from Beerschot in 2022.

Now, a move to Govan could be on the cards for the forward after a development emerged out of Tynecastle before June comes to an end.

Shankland set to confirm Hearts exit

The contract situation of the versatile attacker has been bubbling under the surface for many months, with a solution yet to be found.

This has seen Shankland heavily linked with a move to West Brom, but that appears to have fallen by the wayside at this point.

As a result, that could leave Russell Martin’s side open to land the Scot as the new head coach looks to bolster his side, ready for the new season.

The Light Blues’ boss has been handed a boost in the race for the Maroons’ star after contract talks broke down ahead of the end of the month.

This has seen the Scottish Mail on Sunday reveal (29 June, back page) that there was a minimal difference in demands between Hearts and Shankland, but the club were unwilling to budge.

This sparked a source close to the player to speak out, saying: “Lawrence wanted to continue at Hearts but unfortunately, the chief executive, Andrew McKinlay, doesn’t share the same ambitions that he has for the club.”

As a result, the Gers could be in a perfect position to pounce and sign the Scottish forward before someone else snaps him up this summer.

Rangers can make Shankland swoop

There is likely to be a need for new forward options in Govan in the near future as Cyriel Dessers continues to be linked with an exit.

This would leave a hole in the side that Martin would certainly have to fill before the Scottish Premiership season kicks off.

As a result, the free transfer signing of Shankland at Ibrox could prove to be wise, given how excellent the Scot has been in front of goal in recent years.

68 goals across just three years in maroon is an excellent return and could be replicated in blue moving forward.
