QPR take bizarre swipe at Rangers as Kwame Poku deal done

QPR have hit out at Rangers after completing the signing of Kwame Poku.

The Ghanaian was strongly linked with a move to Govan after the introduction of Russell Martin as head coach earlier this month.

A switch from Peterbrough United to Ibrox looked to be on the cards for the winger, but he has opted to take up a different career direction.

This has seen Poku complete a free transfer to Queens Park Rangers, sparking a strange social media reaction from the R’s in the aftermath.

QPR take aim at Rangers after Poku announcement

It is fair to say that the Light Blues faithful are hoping for a positive window of transfer business after the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh came through the doors.

This has seen a number of stars linked with a move to G51, with Max Aarons the only man to come in at this stage of the summer.

It had looked as if the Bournemouth loanee was going to be joined by the 23-year-old forward, but that isn’t the case anymore.

This would have been an excellent deal for the Gers after the wide man contributed to 22 goals in just 31 games throughout last campaign.

After strong links to Birmingham City and Ibrox, Poku has instead joined QPR to link up with their new head coach, Julien Stephan.

The signing has clearly gone down well at Loftus Road, with the London outfit taking to X (28 June) to say: “Kwame Poku signs for THE Rangers”, joined by a smug-looking emoji.

Rangers snubbed by Poku

It has come as a surprise to see the one-time EFL Trophy winner decide to join the side who finished 15th in the Championship last season.

Although the Gers may not have had the greatest year, they still finished second in the Scottish Premiership and had a positive campaign in the Europa League.

This would have seen Poku feature on the continent this season, with the potential of replacing Vaclav Cerny on the flank after his stellar loan spell.

Instead, a move to the English capital to play for a side who could be set for another struggle moving forward, but at least they’ve made a joke on social media…
