Rangers ‘ready to sell Ridvan Yilmaz now’ with replacement already lined up at Ibrox

Rangers are working behind the scenes to build a squad capable of toppling Celtic next season.

Russell Martin has been hired as manager, and he’ll be given plenty of funds by the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh to spend on new players this summer.

Rangers confirmed the signing of Max Aarons on a season-long loan deal on Wednesday, and there has been no shortage of speculation surrounding other players supposedly on their way to Ibrox.

Owen Beck could sign for Rangers on one condition

Liverpool left-back Owen Beck is another player on Martin’s radar at Ibrox.

The young defender had a productive loan spell at Blackburn Rovers last season, but Rangers want him permanently, fighting the likes of Wrexham for his signature.

However, the Daily Record (26 June) reports that this deal will likely only materialise if Yilmaz is sold first.

Yilmaz struggled to nail down a place in the starting XI last season, with Jefté often preferred at left-back, and has been linked with a move back to his native Turkey for some time.

Rangers would reportedly rather move him on before signing another player in his position.

Beck would fit perfectly into Martin’s system

Martin likes his teams to play out from the back, and Beck would have no problems with that.

The 22-year-old is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and can bomb up the left flank to support the attack with no hesitation.

Both Rangers and Celtic have previously shown interest in signing him, but they were knocked back by Liverpool last year.

Owen Beck 2024-25 statistics

When Beck was on loan at Dundee during the 2023-24 season, he was named in the PFA SPL Team of the Year, also becoming very popular with Blackburn fans during his loan spell at Ewood Park.

It seems that the Welshman has a promising career ahead of him, but he’ll be looking to secure regular first-team football if he does leave Anfield now.

It would be competition between Jefté and Beck for that left-back slot if it comes down to that, with Yilmaz now looking destined to be frozen out.
