Rangers ‘can afford Kwame Poku transfer’ as Ibrox mutiny on cards

Russell Martin wants Rangers to sign Peterborough United forward Kwame Poku this transfer window.

Max Aarons’ move to Ibrox is close to being completed, making him the second arrival this summer after Lyall Cameron.

Poku has been a leading target for Martin since he was appointed manager at the Gers, and it remains to be seen whether they can seal the deal.

QPR are also in the race to sign the 23-year-old as a free agent, with his contract at the League One outfit expiring soon, but the Glaswegian outfit also have the right winger on their radar.

Poku transfer affordable as Rangers fans to raise questions if beaten by QPR

Keith Jackson has revealed that the Gers should be able to afford Poku’s signing this summer.

The Daily Record journalist believes the Ibrox faithful will rightly raise questions if QPR beat the Light Blues to the forward’s signature.

Jackson disclosed the Bears have a genuine interest in the 23-year-old, with Martin and the recruitment department wanting to sign him.

Speaking on Hotline Live (24 June), the journalist said: “I don’t know if it’s off the table. I think there’s a genuine Rangers interest there. So they are at the table.

“I think there might be some Rangers fans that would look at if [Poku] were to choose QPR over Rangers, then people would quite rightly say, why is that? Are the club not offering a better financial package than Queens Park can offer?

“I’d be surprised if that one happens, given that we do believe that he’s a person of real interest to Martin and the recruitment department. You would expect that this is a deal Rangers should be able to afford.”

Kevin Thelwell should sign Poku for Martin this transfer window

Poku would cost £350,000 at Ibrox as a compensation fee, and that’s something supporters will expect the Gers to be able to pay, especially after their takeover.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have approved an extra £20million investment during the Light Blues’ EGM, and Kevin Thelwell must now sanction a major squad overhaul.

Vaclav Cerny’s return to Wolfsburg has been a significant blow for the Bears, and they undoubtedly need a quality replacement for him.

Poku seems like a decent reinforcement for Rangers after his impressive season in League One, and that’s a deal they should definitely look to complete sooner rather than later.

Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence have also left the Gers, and Martin arguably needs more than one attacker to bolster his ranks.

While the likes of Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo have returned from their respective loan spells, the ex-Southampton boss will surely want more quality up front.

Exciting times are ahead for the Glaswegian outfit this transfer window, and Poku’s situation will be one to watch closely.
