Russell Martin eyes ‘major coup’ at Rangers as deal on to sign ex-Arsenal man

Russell Martin is keen on adding to his backroom staff as he’s set to manage his first season at Rangers.

While the former Southampton manager would want new players through the door, he’s also keen on getting in the right people to be on the sidelines assisting him.

The Ibrox outfit will aim to win the title after finishing 17 points behind rivals Celtic last season.

Sal Bibbo wanted by Russell Martin at Ibrox

The Daily Record claimed on 23 June that Martin is eyeing a “major” coup at Gers, backing up a report from The Star that stated Sal Bibbo is on his radar.

Should any deal progress, the 50-year-old will be in line to replace Allan McGregor at the Ibrox outfit.

He stepped into a coaching position on a temporary basis after Barry Ferguson was handed the reigns last season.

Bibbo will be a good addition to the Rangers coaching staff

Bibbo’s appointment as goalkeeping coach at Rangers under Martin is a vital addition due to his extensive experience across elite clubs.

Having served at Arsenal, Brighton, Sheffield Wednesday, Reading and Nike Academy, he brings a wealth of expertise in developing goalkeepers.

His work with managers like Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery and Danny Rohl highlights his adaptability and high-level coaching pedigree.

At Ibrox, Bibbo’s proven ability to nurture talent will enhance the goalkeeping unit, crucial for Martin’s possession-based philosophy.

His track record ensures Rangers’ goalkeepers will be technically sharp and tactically aligned, strengthening the team’s defensive foundation.
