Joey Barton reacts to new Cavenagh and Marathe video at Rangers

Rangers supporters are waiting to see the new regime at Ibrox get underway.

Although Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe have completed their takeover of the Scottish Premiership club and appointed Russell Martin as boss, their first signing is yet to be made.

Nevertheless, after the EGM that took place on Monday (23 June) with all resolutions passed, things could well be ready to ramp up.

Joey Barton, for one, certainly sees the future as being bright.

Barton passes Rangers judgement

Pre-season at Auchenhowie is now underway and Martin will be using the first few days as an opportunity to get a good look at his squad.

There is plenty of work to be done in the coming weeks, and with Champions League qualification at the end of July, the pressure to get things going is on.

The new majority investors are set to back Martin with a healthy budget, more than the Gers have had to play with in recent seasons.

Nevertheless, progress will have to be a measured project to ensure that the future is sustainable for the Light Blues.

Rangers need to close the gap with Celtic.

This is something that Cavenagh and Marathe have alluded to themselves, stating that they won’t be throwing cash at the project for short-term gain.

They did not shy away from the discussion of trophies, though, and laid out clear ambitions for success in a video for Rangers supporters.

Former Rangers man Barton is backing the new investors to bring success too, as he posted in response to the video on X (24 June): “Good luck to them. Proper club. Historic. Be good to see Rangers dominant in Scotland again.

“Tough ask. Second is nowhere up there.”

Rangers must be patient in progress

After the disappointment of last season, supporters will naturally want to feel some joy at Ibrox again.

However, the new investors’ incoming is about bringing a new long-term project to Glasgow, and therefore, there will have to be patience in seeing progress.

That being said, there does have to be an obvious improvement on the pitch next season to prove to supporters that things are moving in the right direction.

Therefore, the transfer business certainly needs to get underway at Ibrox in preparation for a big season ahead.
