‘Rangers to grant Russell Martin wish’ as Conor Coady transfer agreement close

Russell Martin could soon have Leicester City defender Conor Coady at Ibrox after the Rangers EGM on Monday.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have confirmed their £20million investment at the Light Blues for the ongoing transfer window at the general meeting on 23 June.

Coady has been linked with a move to Ibrox after getting relegated from the Premier League with the Foxes last season.

The new owners should back Martin if they hope to achieve success in the upcoming campaign, and they’re already showing intent.

Coady transfer needed at Ibrox after John Souttar concern

John Souttar’s availability for the Champions League qualifier is in doubt after he underwent surgery recently.

Robin Propper may also leave Ibrox soon, with FC Twente working on the centre-back’s return to the Netherlands after a somewhat disappointing season in Scotland.

Dujon Sterling showed promise when playing as a central defender in the previous campaign, but his consistent fitness issues make him unreliable.

Clinton Nsiala’s rise at Rangers hit a standstill after Barry Ferguson’s appointment, and it remains to be seen whether Martin will trust the youngster.

James Tavernier also played at centre-back during the Gers’ injury crisis under the interim manager, but they can’t leave themselves in a similar situation going into next season.

Coady has years of experience in the top flight, impressing at Wolves before playing for Leicester and Everton.

The 32-year-old would undoubtedly be a brilliant replacement for Leon Balogun at the Light Blues, but more reinforcements are arguably needed in defence in the coming weeks.
