Nico Raskin ‘contract decision set at Rangers’ after Wolves transfer development

Nico Raskin is in demand this transfer window after an impressive season at Rangers.

The 24-year-old has impressed many in recent months, earning a call-up to the Belgium national team and thriving during the international break in March.

Wolves have emerged as potential suitors for Raskin this summer, and it remains to be seen whether the Gers will sanction his exit.

The ex-Standard Liege star’s contract at Ibrox expires in 2027, and now feels like the right time for the Light Blues to cash in on him.

Rangers contract extension not on cards for Raskin amid Wolves transfer interest

Raskin may snub a contract extension at the Gers amid interest from Wolves, Keith Jackson says.

The Daily Record journalist believes the midfielder won’t sign a new deal at Ibrox to fulfil his ambition of playing in the Premier League.

Jackson feels that while the Belgian star is happy at the Glaswegian outfit, part of his plan could potentially be a move to England, with the 24-year-old likely aware of interest from Molineux for at least 18 months.

Raskin’s record at the Gers last season.

Speaking on Hotline Live (22 June), the journalist said: “I think so [Raskin will leave]. Is Raskin settled and happy? Yes. So is he agitating to get away? No. Do I think he’ll sign an extended contract? No, I don’t think so because part of his career plan all along, he’s had eyes on the Premier League and England.

“He’s known about this interest from Wolves for 18 months at least, maybe even more than that.”

Kevin Thelwell should sell Raskin if he doesn’t sign new Ibrox contract

Kevin Thelwell has a massive decision to make on Raskin this summer, but the midfielder’s reluctance to sign a new deal could possibly make things easier.

The 24-year-old will only have a year left of his deal after the 2025/26 season, which will undoubtedly reduce his valuation.

Now feels like the best chance the Gers have of maximising their profit with the Belgium international’s sale.

Rangers have historically been underwhelming with their outgoing business in recent years, a trend that Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises must change.

The Ibrox faithful already expect the new owners to invest a significant sum in the ongoing transfer window, and the money from Raskin’s possible sale will surely help them build a more competitive squad for Russell Martin.

With several areas of the pitch arguably needing reinforcements at the Light Blues, accepting a reasonable offer for the 24-year-old midfielder would make perfect sense.

The Glaswegian outfit need to have trust in their recruitment department to find a suitable replacement for the Belgian national this summer, and Hamza Igaman and Mohamed Diomande serve as brilliant examples.

Raskin’s situation at G51 in the coming weeks will be one to watch closely.
