Cyriel Dessers to ‘leave Rangers within hours’ as 49ers ready to cash in for millions
Cyriel Dessers looks finally set to leave Rangers.
The Nigerian international ended the season with the Golden Boot award in the Scottish Premiership, but that still wasn’t enough for many at Ibrox.
Dessers has been linked with the exit several times during his two-year stay in Glasgow, with many fans not happy with the number of chances he misses.
Much to their delight, the striker could be gone within the next 48 hours.
Dessers finally set to quit Rangers
AEK Athens have been sniffing around the striker all summer, and they are down to the final details to get a deal over the line.
Dessers is said to have agreed on a three-year contract already, but the Greeks continue to haggle with Rangers over a transfer fee.
The Scottish Sun has reported that they are offering £4million, but the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh want closer to £5m to green light any move.
AEK Athens jet off to the Netherlands for a training camp on Monday, and Dessers is wanted on that trip as they try to hash out an agreement before Wednesday.
Russell Martin, on the other hand, is already said to be looking at replacements.
Rangers ready sign new strikers
Kevin Thelwell has already produced a long shortlist at Ibrox, covering all areas.
With Max Aarons set to become his first signing on loan from Bournemouth, attention could quickly change to the final third, especially if Dessers does leave this week.
Dor Turgeman and Matija Frigan are both on the radar and are said to fancy moves to Govan, but both would cost similar fees to the Nigerian international.
Jamie Vardy has also been mentioned as a possible option after leaving Leicester, but you would imagine that he could join as a second option on top of a younger star.
Rangers are only weeks away from a trip to Greece of their own, taking on Panathinaikos in their opening Champions League qualifier, and they must be better prepared than last season.
Not only was Ibrox not ready, but the squad was embarrassed against Dynamo Kyiv at Hampden Park, and that failure cannot happen again.
Should Dessers leave quickly, a replacement must be found in a similar fashion.
